Support Groups

..:: People who train together stay together.  When you are able to go through something with other people that are also going through the same thing, it is a great motivator. Plus, you know that you are not alone. Whether it is an organization like Weight Watchers or just a local fitness group, there are a lot of benefits to being around people with the same goals.
Of course when you travel, you don't always have that same support.  But with today's technology, even when you are away you are not apart. Make it a point to e-mail the people in your group and keep your cell phone handy.

Behavior Change

..:: If you have a bad habit that you are trying to get rid of so that you can adopt a more healthy lifestyle, you should replace the bad habit with a positive counterpart.  Instead of just dropping the bad habit, find something that you can do in place of it. This will help create more lasting results and help to keep the body, mind and spirit in balance.

Goal Setting

..:: Working out on the road is like working out at home. It requires planning and commitment.

..:: Determine the constraints that you'll be faced with during your trip. Will you be time challenged? Equipment challenged? Perhaps you're a running who will be visiting Vermont in the winter.

..:: While you are planning your itinerary, set your travel fitness goals. Make your goals SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.

..:: If you made time-based goals, schedule appointments with yourself on your calendar.

..:: Develop mitigation strategies for dealing with people, things, and circumstances that may prevent you from reaching your goals. For example, your co-workers may pressure you to skip your workout; rehearse your firm "No thanks" response.
