Travel Fit Tip: A Hot Meal on the Go

Out of convenience, many of our travel snacks always seem to be room temperature. Wouldn't it be nice to get hot meal now and again?

Try "cup-a-soup" for a welcome alternative. Check the natural foods section of your local grocery store for high fiber, low-fat (and zero trans fat) varieties. Steer clear of cream soups that are high fat, and to avoid the sugar crash, leave the noodle soups on the shelf.

I like bringing my cup-a-soup on board, and enjoy the looks that I get when I'm eating yummy black beans or vegetable barley while everyone else is trying to subsist on four pretzels.

Pack your cup-a-soup in a plastic bag in case it gets crushed in your suitcase or briefcase. I made that mistake once, and I was picking dried spices and black beans out of my bag for a month.

Be sure to bring a couple of plastic spoons, as you typically won't find any on the plane. When the beverage cart comes by, ask the flight attendant for a cup of hot water and you're all set. If your soup got crushed, just ask for an extra cup or two.
