Travel Fit Tip: Variation Reduces Boredom

Bored with doing the same travel fitness workout over and over again? Not only is repetition dull, but our bodies quickly adjust to any given activity, rapidly getting more efficient in just a few weeks, eliminating much of your routine's benefits.

If you need to spice up your workout, try shocking your system with some variation to your routine:
  • Can't stand the thought of 45 minutes on the treadmill? Try 15 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes on the bike, and 15 minutes on the stair climber or cross trainer.
  • Tired of running? Challenge yourself to a mountain climb by setting the treadmill on a steep incline and walking at as brisk a pace as you can manage.
  • Bored with weights? Try replacing one of your weekly weight lifting sessions with a yoga or Pilates workout. Look for books and tapes such as the ones below from Amazon. Personally, I like books better because I am not dependent on a VCR or DVD and, once I'm familiar with the routine, I can go through it faster using the book than I can watching it on TV.
  • Look for in-room fitness options at your hotel. They may have free workout kits and/or programs on the hotel TV channels.
