Travel Fit Tip: Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers, otherwise known as cross trainers, are a great alternative to walking or running, whether on the treadmill or real land. These cardio machines provide a total body workout and, as a result, help you burn significant calories in a relatively short period of time.
And better yet, elliptical trainers provide a smooth motion that doesn't stress your joints. If running is proving to be too hard on your body, but you still want a high-intensity activity, try the elliptical trainer at your next hotel gym.
30 minutes on the elliptical trainer burns about 250 calories per 100 pounds of body weight.
Note, I have a lot of trouble with my toes falling asleep while I'm on the elliptical (presumably because your feet never actually leave the pedals), so I simply untie my shoes and that does the trick.
