The One Pound Rule

The following was excerpted with permission from The Complete Travel Diet, by Terry Riley, PhD and owner of TraveLean, a corporate weight management program for business travelers.

The mathematics of calorie storage and use is simple. If you consume 3,500 calories more than your body uses, those calories will be stored as about one pound of body fat. On the other hand, if your body burns 3,500 calories more than consume, your weight will decrease by about one pound.

You can see how eliminating just 100 calories a day can, over time, make a significant difference in your body weight. By cutting out snacks, sodas, and other sugary foods from your diet and/or exercising just another 20 minutes a day, you will lose weight. It is as simple as that.
