Travel Fit Tip: Take the Stairs
Whether at the airport or in your hotel, taking the stairs rather than the escalator can help you burn extra calories with a minimum of fuss.
Walking up stairs for five minutes burns about 30 calories per 100 pounds of body weight, compared with only five calories standing on the escalator.
The same holds true for taking the "people mover" versus walking under your own power. Walking and pulling luggage for five minutes burns about 12 calories per 100 pounds of body weight, while standing (still) only burns five calories.
